  • Use athletic tape. Many runners use athletic tape to cover problem areas on their feet. If you use this technique, be sure the tape has no wrinkles in it and it’s not wrapped too tightly.

  • Use petroleum jelly. Apply a very small amount of petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, to problem areas. Be careful not to apply too much, as that could cause your foot to slide around in the shoe—and that can create other problems.
